I agree with Tseug. I think it will be better if the school identifies the holidays of a particular term and then schedule ahead a make-up class for that week.

Obviously, I disagree with the plan. This would only make even tougher adjustments especially for students who are participating actively in their organizations. In my opinion, Friday, as the alloted free day, is the most suitable time for make up classes, org events etc. and also, i don't want to adjust my body clock with an another system anymore. haha. yun lang

Moving the freeday to a monday is bad idea.
First of all, postponing the start of classes will make student's lazy.
Second, students might be discouraged to do activities because doing so may tire them out for the rest of the week.

Having Monday as the free day would mean that each student would have to adjust to a new system. What if they were not able to cope up easily? It will totally destroy each student's weekly routine.
We are used to having Monday as the day when we begin all the academic work/activities for the week and Friday as the day for activities less stressful than that of academics (e.g. org activities, alternative classes and the like), not to mention it is the day before weekend when we get to rest and relax even just a bit.
To sum it all up, having Monday as the free day is totally not a good idea because it is the first day of the week.

I believe the best option is to retain the friday free day especially for the orgs. Like most have said, it's already hard enough encouraging students to attend org activities on a friday... what more on a monday. Students will definitely be more lazy. And yes, they will most likely use monday to cram for things that has to be finished .
As for the MW skeds being affected by the holidays, I agree that we should be ready to anticipate these holidays and prepare for it. For unplanned holidays, make-up classes can still be fixed on a friday.

MEMORANDUM REGARDING THE PLAN OF MAKING MONDAY AS THE OFFICIAL U-BREAK OF DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY-MANILA
Date: October 10, 2008
To : Enrollment Committee De La Salle University - Manila
Dr. Julius B. Maridable Vice Chancellor for Academics
Mr. Voltaire M. Mistades Dean of Student Affairs
From : Legislative Assembly De La Salle University - Manila Student Council
Re : Monday being the official University Break
Recently, the plan of moving the University Break of DLSU to a Monday was released in the campus newspaper: Ang Pahayagang Plaridel. We, the De La Salle University-Student Council Legislative Assembly, are standing against this plan of the administration for the following reasons:
1. Every student has the right to be properly informed of the programs, rules and regulations, and policies of the academic community
This plan of the administration is not well-publicized to the student body. The DLSU-SC admits that the publicity of such is a joint responsibility of administration and the student sector. Provided with this loophole in the deliberation of such policy, the DLSU Administration must not push for it because it violates the rights of the students as stated in the DLSU-Student Council Constitution and the Student Charter.
2. In the exercise of rights and freedoms, everyone shall be subject only to such limitations as are determined by law solely for the purpose of securing due recognition and respect for the rights and freedoms of others and of meeting the just requirements of morality, public order and the general welfare in a democratic society.
This plan of the administration was not well discussed with all the student sectors. We demand the administration to send a detailed proposal containing the reasons, rationale, advantages and disadvantages of this policy. Since this proposal was not delivered, providing such policy will violate the basic human right of the students not to be limited by policies that do not meet the just requirements as presented above. Hence, we believe that we must postpone the decision on this policy.
3. Student organizations shall not be subject to rules and regulations that unduly hamper their activities and are prejudicial to their objectives and interests, provided that such objectives are aligned with the university's mission
This plan of the administration hampers the activities and is prejudicial to the objectives and interests of the student organization because it entirely affects the schedule of the organizations’ activities. Thus, this kind of plan should undergo further research particularly on its impact to the student organizations.
4. Every student has the constitutional right to information
Every student has the constitutional right to information. The plan of the administration violates this right of the students because the administration should show first the result of the evaluation about the 1.5 class hour scheme before implementing a new system. We, as students, must be informed of such evaluation before we pilot test another entirely new system. Thus, implementing such plan violates our constitutional right to information. Hence, we are asking to postpone decision on this policy.
5. Lasallian achievers for God and Country
It is the vision of DLSU-Manila to hone Lasallian Achievers for God and country. It is part of DLSU-Manila’s vision to have holistic development among Lasallian students. By implementing this kind of plan, DLSU will be inconsistent with its vision because it degrades student empowerment and involvement that is a major aspect of holistic development. Thus, we are asking the administration to postpone such decision.
With our reasons to oppose the implementation, we are recognizing our vital responsibility to help the administration in researching not only on the feasibility but also on the advantages and disadvantages of such proposal. We are more than willing to cooperate with the administration on deliberating on the policy. Thus, we are clearly asking the administration to postpone its decision.

They approved it without considering our rights! They did not respect our right to information and our right not to be limited by policies that are not well-discussed!
